Need for Volunteers
Our dedicated Farm volunteers are
those who help Pegasus fly like the mythological winged horse. They provide more than 18,000 hours of
service every year, making our therapeutic programs possible and
affordable. Our riders count on them, not only for assistance, but
also for the social interaction that is vital to their emotional and
physical well-being.
The rewards are many, but the best are the bountiful hugs and
smiles of our riders and the magic of watching individuals enjoy new
experiences and accomplish new tasks.
There are many ways a volunteer can participate;
volunteers help our riders tack the horses for class, lead the
horses or side walk along with the rider.
There are several other volunteer opportunities:
- Barn work (grooming, tack cleaning, stall cleaning)
- Office work (filing, data entry, mailings)
- Special events
- Gardening
- Building and property maintenance
Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday and
all day on Saturday. The Farm does not have a requirement as to when and
how many hours someone must be at the Farm, but we do ask for a
commitment. Most of our volunteers commit to 3 to 4 hours once a week,
others are only able to volunteer once or twice a month.
Riding classes are also available to our dedicated
volunteers.
Requirements & determination factors:
- Active volunteer of at least 1 month
- 12 hours of volunteer services a month
- $22.50 riding fee per class
- Pegasus Farm sets a weight limit of 200
pounds for all riders
- Instructor approval
- Class availability
- Horse availability
