Community Service Programs
In addition to its equine assisted therapeutic
programs, Pegasus Farm hosts a number of service programs that respond to
identified community needs:
Group Work Programs - The purpose of the group work programs is
to offer individuals with disabilities the opportunity to perform
services for the farm while learning job skills for future employment.
Participants provide services such as farm chores, ground maintenance,
cleaning equipment, etc. Recently, Jackson Middle School, Southgate
School, Green High School, Canton South High School, Timken High School and Americorp have
participated in this program.
Court-Ordered Community Service Program (Stark County)
Various courts in Stark County assign individuals to Pegasus Farm for
completion of their community service hours. Participants provide
facility maintenance, grounds keeping, and barn chores under the
supervision of Pegasus Farm managers.
Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) - This is a
training and employment program which encourages and lengthens
self-sufficiency by supplementing income (through the U.S. Department of
Labor) while providing training, increased marketability and
opportunities for transition into unsubsidized employment for men and
women ages 55 and over.
Internship Programs
Pegasus Farm provides the opportunity for field
experience that would be to the mutual benefit of the Farm and the
riders we serve, and to cooperate in providing field experience and
instruction for the students of the college, university or high-school
that participate in the internship program. As a field experience site,
Pegasus Farm must be willing to provide appropriate opportunities for
learning to the student based on his/her field of study.
